The 5-star hotel is a sister hotel of Fairmont Singapore and has 1,252 rooms and suites, 12 restaurants and bars, Raffles City Convention Centre, and one of Asia's largest spas, Willow Stream Spa. It was established by Armenian hoteliers, the Sarkies Brothers, in 1887. The hotel was named after British statesman Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore.
The hotel was topped-out on 27 February 2009 and opened on 20 January 2010. Both the latter and Hotel Michael (11-storey hotel named after Michael Graves, topped out on 15 July 2009 and was opened on 20 January 2010), sits on the area of the former Sentosa Musical Fountain .
