  4. The easiest way of dealing with it is to open terminal and type "killall Dock" (although it is not a full solution, as the issue re-appears) . This then recovers the Dock for a time. Alternatively, right click the dock icon and "open new finder window" or whatever the app equivalent is. [Edited by Moderator]
