Binghamton University. In-state tuition ~$29k, possibly around $20k with NYS STEM scholarship (would need to work in state for 5 years after graduating for that to apply) Good academics all around, but slightly lower ranked in CS compared to other options. Already know some friends going here.

For off-campus matters, Binghamton is a historically economically depressed city; there is a very strong argument that it's a part of the Rust Belt, though it's showing signs of recovery thanks to the university being such a powerhouse. This isn't to say that it's a war zone here, but just like any other city, keep your wits about you at night.

dickinson and mountainview are probably your best bets if you find good people to live with! mountainview has a huge common room which is so so great for hang outs. dickinson is also good, but not as spacious as mountainview since you don’t have an actual common room, just a hallway. The only downside to mountainview is that it’s up a hill ...

binghamton’s acceptance rate has been falling a lot in recent years- since the pandemic a lot less people go far from home. it’s made it much harder to get in to; i recommend sending admissions a letter of continued interest! showing that you would actually attend the university goes further than you think. also, you can ALWAYS go to ...

Binghamton has a lot of wilderness around, the nature reserve etc. the student body seems more tight-knit and you aren't too far from NYC here which is alright. Safety-wise they are the same mostly! Folks here will warn you about sketchy neighborhoods but Tempe literally has several "crack houses" off campus and in ostensibly good neighborhoods.

So this is my review and summary of my first semester of college at SUNY Binghamton as an Engineering Major. The content of those two sections will probably be pretty scatterbrained but you might find some of it interesting or useful if you ...

I'm a high school senior in NYC confidently planning to major in CS. I've narrowed my choices to RIT and Binghamton University. Bing is cheaper for me but both are affordable. From my research, it seems that Bing has better dorms, campus, and student life (demographics, food, less nerdy). However, it has a worse CS program (and overall ...
