The Runaways were an American rock band who recorded and performed from 1975 to 1979. Formed in 1975 in Los Angeles, the band released four studio albums and one live album during its run.

The band — composed of Joan Jett on rhythm guitar and vocals, lead singer Cherie Currie, Sandy West on drums, lead guitarist Lita Ford, and Jackie Fox on bass — came together in 1975 but by the spring of 1979, when the Runaways finally called it quits, there were only three original members left.

Lita Rossana Ford (born September 19, 1958) [7][8] is a British-American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. She was the lead guitarist for the all-female rock band the Runaways in the late 1970s, and then embarked on a successful glam metal solo career that hit its peak in the late 1980s.
