It's an unfortunate change, from "optional phone number" to mandatory. I have had 2 parcels delayed in the past week, held for 4 and 5 days, because of "missing information" -- which was the customer's phone number, of all things!! Not knowing how to get around it, I will have to see how it affects sales.

Unfortunately, when there are no telephone or livechat customer service options available, and no response via email except canned non answers, customers will air their grievances on social media. Handling these problems by eliminating all customer service options except for facebook, twitters, etc is only going to make this worse for Etsy.
Etsy is by far the worst when it comes to customer service. No number to call. Its hit or miss if they respond, and when they do they give you a copy paste response and just direct you to read something, without even answering your questions. When you tell them youve already read it, and are seeking a human solution to the problem they ghost you.

I guess you could include it your "thank you note" after someone places an order or add your number somewhere on your about page, listings, etc but I personally wouldn't want just anyone who looked at my shop to have my phone number.
Talk with your buyer and explain what happen and see if you can come to an agreement for the new shipping costs that is their fault. but nicer than i just wrote. 1/2 1/2 or buyer pays all , and if you are able to reach an agreement then simply add a listing for the additional mailing costs.
