She began her career as a journalist at ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, hosting the programs Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas, Salamat Dok, the hourly news updates, and Gising Pilipinas on DZMM. Career. With 24 years of experience as a writer, reporter, producer, host and anchor, Cherie worked for the top two networks in the Philippines beginning her careers a news anchor, reporter, researcher, and then as one of the best live on-the-scene reporters for ABS-CBN News (1995–2004), before finally signing with TV5 (2004–2016).
In November of the same year, Cruz-Valdes filed her resignation. In 2010, she joined TV5 as its news chief.
