I recently decided to finally switch from my overpriced 7000 yen/month for 7GB data Softbank phone plan to a lower cost service, and after completing the number portability request I was ready to go and my Japanese friend has a low cost plan with UQ Mobile so I decided to sign up with them.

I'm thinking about switching to UQ mobile 12G that costs ~3500 a month with the 60min call addon, plus continuing my rakuten subscription. With that combined I'm getting two phone numbers both with free-to-opt-out contract, unlimited data with rakuten tethering(and UQ 12G when out of Rakuten network), and costing me ~6500 a month.
jamar030303. • 4 yr. ago. It's probably VoLTE that's the issue. The Pixel 2XL doesn't support VoLTE on certain carriers, and without VoLTE you can't make phone calls while on LTE. The other piece of the puzzle is that UQ stopped offering non-VoLTE SIMs (drops down to CDMA for voice) to new customers last year. 2.

UQ versus J-COM Mobile. Sales from J-COM tried to persuade us to ditch UQ for them. Both run on the au network, but J-COM is just an MVNO. The cost would be about 2,000 yen cheaper, and they were offering free transfer rather than the usual 3,000 yen paperwork charge. Any reasons not to switch?
