Posted June 4, 2013. One simple use for Sketchup that is terrific is to read in a model from the massive Google Warehouse (GoogleEarth - highlight the model and click) - for example, some airport buildings in Rio - and either just download the Collada (.dae format) model directly into Model Converter X - or the Sketchup version (.skp format ...
Trimble still offers Sketchup as a free download, but they really want you to buy the $590.00 Premium version of Sketchup. I used to take the Google Warehouse model, convert it to a Sketchup model, create an mdl file that could be placed into a library and then compiled into a bgl file that FS9 and FSX could read using BGLCOMP.
Finally some preview shots of Aberdeen Airport:I'm using two custom objects here from google warehouse, the rest being default library objects or opensceneryx.Steep learning curve, paticularly with respect to texturing in Sketchup, but hopefully that will become easier.WED1.2 seems to be OK.

KSLE_obj5.bgl is probably the biggest drain; many of the larger models incorporate volumes of polygons. Removing it will hide most of the custom ground vehicles, the airport terminal, the restaurant, several other key buildings and the single effect to illuminate the tower. This .bgl would be one to try to keep.
1. Build model in Sketchup. 2. Export as .dae file. 3. Open .dae in ModelConverterX. 4. Convert texture to .dds. 5 Export as .mdl file. 6. Load ADE, add model to list. 7 Place model in airport. Now, when I load P3D, the model is there, but it's not textured, just a big black box. I think the problem is where I put the model and texture.
I appear to have missing corrupt material/texture files (CEMENTDIRT01) as areas using it are showing pink. The actual file referred to is ASO_CEMENT01_ALBEDO.TIF.DDS. This occurs at a few freeware airports but also with Orbx EGLC - and show all the time/at all distances. Orbx are helping out, but...
The real YSNF is at 371 feet. The default elevation will always override if an elevation is different and not set as mentioned in step 1. When you change the elevation as outline in step 1, a file is created by ADE and is stored in a different folder from the rest of your project bgl files.
