The Celia Weston years are when the show becomes a glorified ego trip for Lavin. She started that grotesque sitcom trope of playing a dual character, with that awful Russian lady. And poor Vera's wedding, where more time is spent on Linda's number (in a huge close up) than Vera's nuptials.
Celia Weston (Jolene) is one of those very lucky actresses whose career actually got better as she got older, which rarely happens. Once she hit middle-age and gained weight, she became a very in-demand character actress who worked constantly.

The theme song was the best part. The show wasn't good. Though it's interesting to watch some of the episodes they basically remade on The Golden Girls when the It's a Living writers took over TGG for the final three seasons, which just to show how strong the TGG characters were and how comparatively weak the It's a Living characters were.
