Scams and fraud can come in the forms of phone calls, online links, door-to-door sales and mail. Below are common scams the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs warns of. Common phone scams:
• Fake email addresses - Malicious actors sometimes send from email addresses made to look like an official email address but in fact is missing a letter(s), misspelled, replaces a letter with a lookalike number (e.g. “O” and “0”), or originates from free email services that would not be used for official communications.
Unsolicited Bulk Email (Spam) AOL protects its users by strictly limiting who can bulk send email to its users. Info about AOL's spam policy, including the ability to report abuse and resources for email senders who are being blocked by AOL, can be found by going to the Postmaster info page .
When you open the email, you'll also see the Certified Mail banner above the message details. When you get a message that seems to be from AOL, but it doesn't have those 2 indicators, and it isn't alternatively marked as AOL Official Mail, it might be a fake email. Make sure you mark it as spam and don't click on any links in the email.
