Cathay Pacific was founded on 24 September 1946 by Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow and American Roy C. Farrell. The airline celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016. As of March 2024, its major shareholders are Swire Pacific with a 45% stake, Air China with 30% and Qatar Airways with 9.9%.
As of June 2023, Cathay Pacific serves 81 destinations including seasonal and cargo services, in 29 countries across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. [1] [2]

Cathay Pacific City ( Chinese: 國泰城; Jyutping: gwok3 taai3 sing4 ), often referred as Cathay City, is the headquarters of Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's flag-carrying airline. It is located at Hong Kong International Airport, on the south side. Cathay Pacific Airways' first aircraft is still in Cathay City.

In November 2011, Cathay Pacific received its second 747-8 freighter (B-LJA), which was painted in the Hong Kong Trader livery. The livery was designed to commemorate the topping out of the new Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal. The name of the livery was taken from Cathay Pacific's very first 747 freighter, which entered the fleet in 1982.
