I remember when Keys Chile Parlor was downtown, and Ralph's Dry cleaners was at 8th & Main. There was a bottle club next door to Key's Chile Parlor. The best to offer was Chile with 2 no beans. I remember eating it from the green paper cup it came in with a spoon brought from home and sweating in the back of the car from the spices.
People are trapped, culturally, and physically, in the state of Florida - which makes all of SFL very isolated anyway. There are no spur-of-the-moment day trips to other states, as there might be living in most other states of the country. If you want a day trip, it will be somewhere in Florida.
To make the problem even worse for these communities in Atlanta/DeKalb, now they have black flight to contend with. Any newly wealthy or successful black families are likely to move out of that district, and/or send the kids to private schools. Ironically, the one hope that might change the situation in the future, is reverse white flight.
