Alright boys and girls it's that time again. Even tho the Forge team is working hard on 1.13 development, which is going well, we have almost all the final tools finished and the installer working, we have not left 1.12 stagnate. Make sure you have the correct version of Forge installed (some packs are heavily dependent on one specific build of Forge) Make a launcher profile targeting this version of Forge. Set the launcher profile's GameDir property to the pack's instance folder (not the instances folder, the folder that has the pack's name on it).
Once the launcher has started the 1.12.2 (or 1.12) forge profile will be in the list of installation profiles. In looking at launcher_profiles.json the profile name will now appear as "forge" instead of the tokenized name that was noticed when the 1.12.2 installer was used.

The problem is most likely due to a to recent version of Java, Forge 1.12.2 cannot be run on Java versions superior to Java 8. Install Java 8 on your system and use it to start the server. So I just installed minecraft forge for 1.12.2 yesterday and been trying to work, but each time I try to play it it either stops the launcher from responding or says the game crashed. I have tried deleting and then reinstalling multiple times. I'm on Windows by the way.
