    Tracfone now requires you to respond to a security code they send you in order to start the process. Since my phone was dead, I couldn't get the text. I had to use the chat feature on their website to transfer my number to the old phone. If the OP wants to use his/her old phone, get a new sim card first.

    Hell no. I’ve had my 617 Boston area code cell phone number for 15 years now and have moved to 3 difference states since then. Way too much trouble changing phone numbers, and nowadays so many people are transient and keeping their original cell numbers so I don’t think this is even an issue in today’s world.
