So these steps may or may not work but after 4 months this solved it. 1. Deleted direct tv app. 2. Deleted direct tv as service provider. 3. Logged in on direct tv website (not app) 4. Created new account using my old att email.

If I go to the site and click "sign in," it goes to an AT&T url with a DirecTV logo. If enter my login name and password I get a screen that says, This site can’t be reached. Check if there is a typo in cprodx.att.com.
