Bench is a place to hold all your players. You can usually only play 10 players max a day. Some days where there's lots of games, you may have to select who to place on the bench. Part of the strategy. Utility is just a spot you can slot anyone into. The other spots require specific eligibility (pg or sg for example).
You could just mass drop, mass add and move on - much faster. I also hate 4 maximum waiver moves per week early in the season. When you're figuring out your team early in the season (who's great, good, bad, sucks, always injured, wasted draft pick, etc.), you need more moves, like 5-6.
