Helonias seeds have a lipid structure that allows seed dispersal through water. This is a result of natural selection considering the 'watery' habitat (i.e. swamp and wetland) of Helonias, and it accounts for the long-distance seed dispersal. It is also known that ants actively engage in Helonias seed dispersal.

In this harsh environment, mangroves have evolved a special mechanism to help their offspring survive. Mangrove seeds are buoyant and are therefore suited to water dispersal. Unlike most plants, whose seeds germinate in soil, many mangroves (e.g. red mangrove) are viviparous, [37] meaning their seeds germinate while still attached to the parent ...

A swamp is a forested wetland. [ 1 ] Swamps are considered to be transition zones because both land and water play a role in creating this environment. [ 2 ] Swamps vary in size and are located all around the world. The water of a swamp may be fresh water, brackish water, or seawater.
