The Certified Medication Aide course teaches students the basic techniques and safety procedures for medication administration. Medication Aides assist residents with medications, and students will learn the classifications and side effects of drugs used in an elder care setting.
After completing the course and passing the state test, the student is credentialed as a Certified Medication Aide in Kansas. The course follows the curriculum specified by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS).
The Medication Aide administers medications under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and works with other care team members like the Nurse Aide.
