Cathay Pacific is the flag carrier of Hong Kong with its head office and main hub located at Hong Kong International Airport. Cathay Pacific is one of the alliance's founding members. Oneworld was unveiled by its founding members, American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines International, Cathay Pacific and Qantas at a press conference in London, United Kingdom, on 21 September 1998. Oneworld was officially launched and became operational on 1 February 1999.
