Echoes was the first Pink Floyd track I ever heard... It was 1975 and I was 8 years old. Music lessons at school mostly consisted of us kids picking up instruments and bashing our way through tunes. To call it a cacophony would be being generous. One day, our music teacher was off sick so we had a supply teacher instead.

Yes. Echoes is probably the best Pink Floyd vinyl side, I’ll give you this much! Side C from The Wall though.. I can’t decide between side 3 and side 4 of the wall. Side 3 is objectively great, but side 4 is like an awesome, deep scary trip that feels like a weird scary part of an adventure. It’s so much fun.

don't mind me if i'm ignorant, but you should know echoes is something that makes you stop thinking and just keep listening, it goes from 23 minutes to 15, so i'm guessing they shortened the ambience or something. edit: the album is called "echoes: the best of pink floyd". At 23-1/2 minutes long, a music theory professor could easy use the song as the syllabus for an entire week's worth of classes. But breaking down the song that way, or any way, actually ruins the effect. A movie cannot be fully understood or appreciated if it's stopped every few minutes for discussion.

It’s an amazing song highlighting the best features of the band before they became legendary. Echoes is one of the best Floyd songs and the first masterpiece following Syd's departure. Nah, Set the Controls was when Syd was still around; it is in fact the only Pink Floyd song that features all five members.
