PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers announced star safety Troy Polamalu's retirement on Friday following a spectacular 12 seasons in the NFL that included eight Pro Bowls, four first-team All-Pro selections and two Super Bowl rings.
Polamalu, an eight-time Pro Bowler and 2010 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is retiring after 12 seasons, telling the only team he’s ever played for that it’s time for the next phase of his life. Polamalu’s retirement was first reported by the Uniontown (Pa.) Herald-Standard.
He played 12 seasons, and was a two-time Super Bowl champion, a four-time first team All-Pro selection, two-time second team All-Pro selection, NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2010), eight-time Pro Bowler and a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team and Steelers All-Time Team.
