Looking for a free SMS app to receive verification messages by privacy ignoring websites . Usual sms24.me messages don't arrive, " text now' text plus, 2nd line apps are complete garbage now and won't allow to receive an SMS unless you buy their phone number. Which sucks, I've been a happy user of TextNow for years. I guess they got fat.

I have been using voice this way ever since. If I ever get a cell phone in service again it would be a number unknown to google. But at any rate, how does google knowing your cell phone number impact signing up for 3rd party accounts using a google voice #? The new account would only know your google phone #.

To be more specific, I requested a temporary free number that lasts 3 days, tried signing up to an online service with it and it didn't work. I immediately got a notification from Hushed telling me that trial numbers cannot be used to verify third party services which sucks, because it means I can't know if it works unless I pay.

You don't need to get a new phone. You just need a new number from another SIM. Tello is pretty cheap ($2 for SIM + $5 for cheapest plan which is unlimited texts with either 100 mins or 500 MB of data) and FreedomPop is essentially free ($5 for SIM, sometimes on sale for 99 cents at Target) and comes with 10 minutes, 10 texts and 25 MB of data per month which is good enough just for Google ...
