Looking for a free SMS app to receive verification messages by privacy ignoring websites . Usual sms24.me messages don't arrive, " text now' text plus, 2nd line apps are complete garbage now and won't allow to receive an SMS unless you buy their phone number. Which sucks, I've been a happy user of TextNow for years. I guess they got fat.

I have been using voice this way ever since. If I ever get a cell phone in service again it would be a number unknown to google. But at any rate, how does google knowing your cell phone number impact signing up for 3rd party accounts using a google voice #? The new account would only know your google phone #.
To be more specific, I requested a temporary free number that lasts 3 days, tried signing up to an online service with it and it didn't work. I immediately got a notification from Hushed telling me that trial numbers cannot be used to verify third party services which sucks, because it means I can't know if it works unless I pay.
Everything nowadays is asking for a number and texting verification codes, honestly would be nice to have a fake number just for one time things like coupons and deals.
There are sites like mailinator for sms. Some free, some not. I most recently tried several free ones from different sites with telegram but telegram blocked them all. I did find one that sold a number for such use for about $20 of crypto. I opted to give telegram and similar sites the finger.
